Eight questions covering entry and authorization requirements for Classes B through G, LAANC, the wedding-cake structure, and sectional chart symbology — the highest-tested airspace concepts on the FAA Part 107 exam.
Sectional Chart · Airspace Reference
Class B
Solid blue · Major hubs · Upside-down wedding cake · ATC auth required
Class C
Solid magenta · Two-ring structure (5 NM inner, 5–10 NM shelf) · ATC auth required
Class D

Class E (surface)
Solid magenta (single ring) · Instrument approach areas · ATC auth required
Class E (700 ft AGL)
Faded magenta vignette · Floor at 700 ft, not 1,200 ft · Auth required above 700 ft
LAANC
Near-real-time auth · Bounded by UAS Facility Map grids · Required for B/C/D/E surface
Class G

Based on 14 CFR Part 107, AC 107-2B, and the AIM. Content is for study only; confirm current regulations at faa.gov before flying.
Airspace and chart reading is the largest single block on the Part 107 exam — roughly 25% of the 60 questions — and nearly every one references a sectional chart excerpt. Memorizing definitions is not enough; you have to recognize the symbols instantly and apply the authorization rules correctly.
The most common mistake is confusing the chart symbols: solid blue vs. solid magenta, dashed blue vs. dashed magenta. Get those four mixed up and you misidentify the airspace class — and misidentify the authorization requirement.
The DroneReady 6-Week Bootcamp dedicates a full week to airspace, pairing the Airspace Assessment Pack with hands-on sectional-chart practice so students drill both the authorization rules and the chart symbology until they're automatic.
The DroneReady Bootcamp pairs a full week of airspace and chart-reading practice with the complete Part 107 question bank across all 14 topics.
